Help Me Crack The Code – “Lights Over Paris”

Plaid friends. There is a new mystery that I need your help in solving.

The story:

I got a random friend invite on the 30LBS Skunk YouTube channel the other day from a user I’ve never viewed, called Lights Over Paris.

At first glance it just looked like some bullshit spam from some ridiculously rich OC band that hasn’t released anything. The Lights Over Paris band website is just a temporary one linking to their various social media accounts.  I dismissed it immediately as spam.

But something about it struck me as being slightly off.

Upon second glance it looked like a band that could be serious contender for the biggest bunch of douchebags in the history of the music industry. I didn’t understand why these idiots wanted to be my friend. How did they even find me?

The next day I still had a remaining friend invite. Oh yeah, those bozos again.

At third glace it looked like a devilishly brilliant and unprecedentedly smooth execution of a biting satire on the creative process (rather, the lack thereof) behind manufactured pop music. I looked at all the comments on their channel and noticed a lot of people didn’t get it. Their satire is very subtle, but if you watch more than 2-3 of the videos it will start to come through. Even the Lights Over Paris Twitter feed reeks of sarcasm.

Is it really satire? Are they really this clever?

The riddle:

I want to believe. Have a look at the videos after the jump, and tell me if I’m crazy to think that a parody exists in this stuff. Or, is this some kind of viral marketing? If so, what are they pushing? Is it the studio? Are these guys actors trying to gain exposure? What’s your theory?

Lakeshore

Made this last week using FCP7 and Magic Bullet Colorista. Mainly I was just experimenting with Colorista. It’s pretty simplistic/versatile.

Anyhow, tried to give it that 70s vintage coloring.

So I made this little video with two of my best friends a couple months ago in Argentina.  I’m happy to say I finally finished editing.  Hope you enjoy.

The Antlers – “Two”

Today I leave for Vegas to see Underworld with a few other Doctors and friends. But before I go, I leave for you the near final version of the music video for The Antlers. My friend, Ethan, is still making some last minute tweaks the band requested but this is pretty much it. My job of creating a shit ton of bubbles is complete. The final should be done this weekend, so I’ll post an update to it next week. Anyway, I think it turned out pretty great and hopefully this video will continue to fuel their current success (Pitchfork Review).

The Antlers – “Two” (Work in Progress)

What’s up everyone, the doc is back! Lately I’ve been working on a few projects – one of which is helping some friends with a music video for this band, The Antlers, based out of Brooklyn. The idea for the video is to have the band crudely animated from construction paper cutouts while jamming out inside of a room. My task for this project is to animate bubbles… lots of bubbles. The bubbles animate out of each instrument in sync with the music and float up to the ceiling. As they fill the room, they start to float out of the window and into the city. I don’t know much more about the video except that I have to create bubbles… lots of bubbles. So far, the bubbles are all manually animated so that they sync up to the music. For some later shots, I’ll probably use Particular, a particle simulation plugin, but for now I need a little more control.

Anyway, this is one of the shots of the drummer. The plan is to animate each member separately throughout the entire song so they can just edit between different shots as needed.

The video should be done around the end of July, so keep an eye out for it.

TMFJesus – Part 1

Hey everyone… long time, no post – sorry about that. I wanna thank both TMFJ and Peace for filling in for me. Things have been busy around here. My dad came to visit for a week, I was out of town for a bit, and work has been crazy. Anyway, I’m back now but only had a couple hours to start a new project because of long hours at work this week. So it’ll have to come in 2 parts. Forgive it for being a little rough right now – especially the last shot. I need to rework a lot of the tracking and color correction throughout. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
