untitled

Here’s a little song I started working on after Michael Jackson died. I haven’t really come up with many lyrics yet except for the chorus, so I kind of just mumbled things off the top of my head.

I recorded it today using the internal mic on my powerbook in my backyard with a guitar, an accordion, and two vocal tracks panned left and right.

It’s a humble start to what will hopefully be frequent guest posts on plaid creature. I apologize it’s technically the 17th.

Wow, great track. The accordion is awesome. And the noise from the lo-fi recording actually adds to the track. It sounds intentional… almost like ambient water sounds or something.

Very Neutral Milk Hotel vibe – I like it a lot. I totally love double-tracked vocals where the phrasing is subtly different. It just makes everything pop a lot more. I’d consider stretching out the harmony sections a little also – I’m a big fan of those (especially around 2:09). Did you play accordion?

Thanks! Yeah, I kinda had king of carrot flowers in mind when I did the stereo vocals. I spent a couple hours trying to write lyrics and had a block, so ended up having to just improvise a track in about 15 minutes and then do the harmony track based off that, haha.

I did play the accordion :)
Hopefully next time I’ll push the harmonies and the accordion a little more.
