Harmony Experiment

I’m in the process of moving to San Francisco this week and next, so I’ve unfortunately not been able to put in the work I’d like to Plaid. But in between the packing and frantic freelancing I managed to get a brief texture recording done. This recording is eight vocals parts arranged into two parts backed by acoustic guitar. Let me know what you think.

sounds great! I need to get out of my backyard and into your studio!

now, of the eight vocal tracks, were they pretty evenly split left and right…what else did you do to blend them, if anything? it sounds like you might have added a small amount of reverb, which I always find sweetens it just a bit and streamlines the tracks a bit more.

great experiment! I’d love to hear a full song recorded this way.

The eight tracks were arranged in sets of four and panned 100% Reft, 50% Left, 50% Right, 100% Right – there’s a touch of reverb on each track that smooths out a bit of the edges, but having 8 things sonically doing the same thing smoothed it out quite a bit on its own. It’s incredible though the jump between two and three tracks. You go from pensive indie rock to choral REAL quick :-)
