Progression 3

So, this week I decided to explore the other pick from the poll where some of our visitors and other Dr.’s around here picked songs they would like to hear further developed.

I’ve been kicking around this tune “Volley” for over two years. I hunkered down and decided to push it through and see where it would go. Having a new sample pack to play around with, I was focusing on exploring drum and bass prior to working on this track. The thought did cross my mind, to raise the BPM up to 165 or 170…but I resisted. I wanted this track to be different.

The more I began tweaking and adding, the more this track struck me as being in the vein of I am Robot and Proud. Which is cool. Check out the result, and mind the compression/mixing as it is also a work in progress itself:

The new stuff:

It will probably continue to mutate. Leave some comments and let me know what you think.

Hahaha Holy shit. I love the changes man.
I think this edition sounds so much more mature and cleaner. That drop in the middle is such a nice touch. And small pitch change right before the drums come back in. I also think the choice of bass drum is superb. Solid track.

The ending. Genius. I might have cut it a little shorter at the end, but its a nice touch.

I totally dig it too – one thing I was thinking: I like the pulse at the beginning while the chirping electronics are coming in. Maybe it would be cool to automate the reverb time to lengthen and shorten randomly – it would make that sound a much more dynamic element (granted, it could sound like turds too).

Seriously – this piece is great. It’s my favorite piece of yours. Nice work :-)
